I think this town has finally worn me out - 10/18/2009
Ive lived in memphis for 34 years and watched it go from a good city to , a reverse racist, crime ridden dump. The education system in this city is awful, and now that we are having our second child, and private school is becoming too expensive, I think we are considering moving on. Its one thing to live in a city where your own mayor calls the white people "haters" and suppressive racists. Its one thing to live in a city where the crime is top in the country. Its one thing when the preachers in some of the churches, call people like me "white devils". BUT its another thing when i think about how my children are supposed to deal with it. For now , Im here. Self employed , and trying to get by. Currently , anyone looking to move here, I would highly reccomend, STAY AWAY!!!!! In the words of the great Mike Tyson, "I love this town, everyones just like

We hate this place! - 7/6/2009
We have lived here for over 5 years now and can't wait to get the heck out of here! I've lived from coast to coast-Burke, VA to Monterey, CA and many places in between and I can first hand tell you this is the worst place I have ever experienced!! EVER! I would never recommend moving here! In fact, when you talk to other people living here about the city, 9 out of 10 will tell you that they too hate this town. From the politics to the crime to the weather to the HATEFUL people, this place is the worst! We now have a 20 month old son and we are trying desperately to do whatever we can to move! Husband and I have great jobs, but that's how they suck people into this city. We make more in our jobs here than we would up in many places up north and east, which is crazy! But many places of employment have to offer more money b/c not many people want to move here and rightfully so! Please think twice before relocating to Memphis! You'll thank me for it

So I've read some postings about Memphis on here. I'd like everyone to know that yes, we are a rough crowd. Yes, quite a few of us are under educated. And yes, a lot of us are crack heads. But hey, but who isnt these days! Some of you may have visited for a week, some of you may have been here for a while. I've been living here for 17 years so if you wanna see the good side of Memphis, hit me up! Please be prepared for the most adventerous night you've ever experienced!
PS please note though, while it can be one of the most amazing cities, everyone who was born/raised/lived here over 75% of there life are begging for a chance to get out including

Memphis has its own charm. Crime can be a problem in some areas as in many cities but downtown is generally safe, particularly areas frequented by tourists. Spring here is wonderful, fall is pretty much non-existant, winters are short and mild for the most part and summer can be unbearably hot and humid. Music is a huge part of the culture here and so is food-the city smells like smoke and barbeque a good bit of the time. The greatest asset Memphis has is the Mississippi River, though it is unappreciated by

crime in Memphis - 4/4/2009
I've read on some reviews about Memphis on how dangerous it is to stop at red lights in certain parts of Memphis. My husband and I are from Idaho and are going to be there this July for a day and a half. We are wanting to go to mudd Island, overton square, Graceland and the zoo. We are staying at the Heartbreak Hotel in Whitehaven. We were in Memphis for the first time last December and didnt feel very safe down town or in Whitehaven except for the Heartbreak Hotel and Graceland........We were told that Whitehaven is a dangerous part of Memphis.....would this be where it is unsafe to stop at red lights??? So after reading information on the crime situations down there .......I'm a little scared to bring my two daughters there and tour the city more than just Graceland. Thanks,

Don't Even Think About Living in Memphis 03-25 - 3/25/2009
I am a born and raised Memphis. I have lived here for over 40 years, and the only reason I haven't left is I can't afford to. Between property tax increases, and real estate depriciation, I can't leave. This used to be a wonderful place to live until about 1980. The population used to be working individuals who payed their bills. Now the population is mostly composed of illegal aliens, and criminal elements. The crime is out of control. Memphis was listed by FBI stastics as the most violent city in the US. There is a shooting virtually every day, and a murder at least every other day. Street Gangs control the public schools, and a lot of the neighborhoods. Property taxes are raised sometimes twice a year, and the CITY GOVERNMENT throws away the money on raises for their own salaries, with many making in excess of $125,000 a year as a public servant. The mayor redecorated his office at a cost of $1 Million dollars of taxpayer's money (to redocorate????). Live anywhere but here. Save

When you live somewhere your whole life, you tend to see only the bad in it. So the bad, the government is corrupt, police are corrupt, we have plenty of them go to jail, the school system sucks so bad that I can't wait for my son to graduate this year an when he does he doesn't read or write worth a lick, as well as, alot of his friends, the mentality of people here is don't care about anything, is why I think there is so much crime, I blame that on our leadership, and yes we are gang ridden, Memphians exist they don't live, unless you are rich and can afford Germantown are Collierville, in Shelby county not Memphis city, one county two governments, which I think they schould consolidate. Does all this happen in every city, probably, just not as bad. Ready for the good, we have southern hospitality, go down to the river at sunset on a nice day you see all walks of life in one place together being friendly enjoying a God given beauty, can't help but enjoy Memphis in May, music fest,

Paying bills - 1/30/2009
I recently finished school and began to make more money and for the first time ever I'm not living hand to mouth. I'm a single woman with no kids who just finished nursing school. Right now Memphis is very affordable for me. Why I want to leave Memphis has nothing to do with cost of living. Unfortunately in Memphis no amount of money will guarantee security in your own home. The utility bills are a bit high, but right now for me it's affordable. Now I'm looking for the whole package in a city, including
