South Fork, CO is a beautiful small mountain town located in the Rio Grande National Forest in southwest Colorado. With a population of 387 people and a population density of 172 people per square mile, it provides a unique experience that combines the small-town atmosphere with access to some of the best outdoor recreation in the state. The town has several local businesses ranging from restaurants to gear shops to provide for locals and visitors alike. Year-round outdoor activities include fishing and boating on South Fork Reservoir, hunting in the national forest, skiing or snowboarding at Wolf Creek Ski Area, hiking in nearby parks such as La Garita Wilderness Area, or camping along The Silver Thread Scenic Byway. Additionally, there are several organizations dedicated to preserving culture and history of the area including The Rio Grande County Historical Society Museum and Native American ruins that dot the landscape. Local sporting events include a weekly golf tournament held in summer months at Riverbend Golf Club or RV camping at nearby Rio Grande Campground with tournaments held throughout summer months. South Fork is truly an amazing place to live with plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation and activities for all ages.
